Walking with God"s Words, the Bible, Do it like this
The life of walking with the Bible, the Word of God, is what makes the Bible the Word of God. Jesus said that those who belong to God hear the word of God (John 8:47) and the Bible testifies Jesus.
The Bible says.
“nor does his word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one he sent. You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, “(John 5:38,39)
John the apostle once said that keeping the commandments is knowing God, but claiming to know God and not keeping His commandments is lying (1John 2:4,5). Blessed are those who read, hear, and keep the word of God.
The Bible says.
Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. (Rev 1:3)
Christians need to realize that without the Word of God, the Word of Life, they are living, but are no different from the dead.
The Bible says.
“The days are coming,” declares the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine through the land— not a famine of food or a thirst for water, but a famine of hearing the words of the Lord. (Amos 8:11)
If we do not eat flesh"s food we will feel hungry, and like this, if we do not eat the spiritual food, we should feel empty and hungry. Like the body that feels thirsty without water, we must feel the spiritual thirst as well.
First of all, we need an earnest heart to receive the Bible as God"s Word.
The Bible says.
And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe. (1Thess 2:13)
The Bible says.
Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11)
We must handle God"s Word humbly. The more God"s Word becomes life in a Christian life, the bigger God is, the smaller we are, the stronger God is, and the weaker we are. That is the true strength of the Word of Life.
In addition, we need an attitude to keep and act according to the Bible, not just reading, listening, and learning the Bible.
We should not just learn and know God"s Word, but we should also be the ones who keeps the God"s Word.
The Bible says.
Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. (Deut 30:11-14)
So, how should we walk with the Bible?
Walking with the Bible, first of all, it is good to base it on Bible reading.
There are many ways for us to walk with the bible. Bible meditation, memorization, Bible research, Bible study, and Bible writing are all good, but whatever we do, we need to base it on Bible reading. The Bible consists of 66 books, 1,189 chapters, and 30,993 verses. If we meditate, study, memorize, and write 10 verses per day, it will take 8 years to complete the Bible, and if we do one chapter per day, it will take more than 3 years. Reading the Bible is like the basic spiritual exercise.
Walking with the Bible, secondly, should be done at the first hour of the day.
We need to wake up the dawn. We tend to give up if our priorities are pushed back. Therefore, in the first hour of our day, if we fail to hold onto the Word of Life and recognize and acknowledge God"s Kingship and that we are His children, it is very difficult to make time from the rest of the day to walk with the Word. But it is very important. We must be determined.
The Bible says.
My eyes stay open through the watches of the night, that I may meditate on your promises. (Ps119:148)
The Bible says.
My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. (Ps 57:7,8 / *Ps 108:1,2)
Walking with the Bible, Thirdly, has to be done every day.
God"s Word, the Bible, must be eaten every day. Just as God"s people, the Israelites ate daily food in the wilderness, if we are His people, His children, then, we must eat the Word of God, the spiritual food, every day.
To walk with the Bible every day, it is better to read it according to the "pages" instead of "chapters". The Bible consists of 1750 pages, so, if we read 10 pages per day, we can complete the Bible twice per year, and if we read 60 pages per day, we can complete the Bible once a month and 12 times a year.
Walking with the Bible, Fourth, we Have to do it for the Rest of our Lives
Walking with God"s Word, the Bible, is a lifelong process. It is not a process that we go through only when we started to believe in Jesus Christ, or during a Bible study and discipleship training, or when we are not busy with important and urgent work. Nobody in this world can say, "Now I know the Bible and know God through it."
The Bible says.
When he takes the throne of his kingdom, he is to write for himself on a scroll a copy of this law, taken from that of the Levitical priests. It is to be with him, and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and these decrees (Deut 17:18,19)
Walking with the Bible, Fifth, we should NEVER choose or separate it.
When reading the Bible, we must begin with the Old Testament"s Genesis and go until the New Testament"s Revelation. We should not choose and separate our favorite places or chapters instead of going through the whole Bible from the beginning to the end. We may feel the Old Testament’s Psalms and Proverbs and the New Testament’s Books of Gospel to be easy, but every verse in the bible, every chapter in the bible, every chapter in each book, every book in the bible, and both the Old and New Testaments, the entire Bible has to be read and studied to know it properly. We can never be spiritually picky. If we only choose parts of a verse, chapters, or books, then we will miss parts of God"s words. The whole Bible is one voice in one volume.
Walking with the Bible, sixth, we should only go until the Word says. We should never forcefully interpret it.
The Bible is the Word of God. We should not try to interpret the Bible with our desires, greed, understanding, and knowledge. Rather, we need to let the Bible say what it needs to say to me.
The Bible says.
He writes the same way in all his letters, speaking in them of these matters. His letters contain some things that are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the other Scriptures, to their own destruction.(2Pet 3:16)
Therefore, Christians must always lay down our fixed knowledge and experiences before the Word and humbly meet God who speaks through the Word.
Walking with the Bible, Seventh, it is better to read the real book, not through a smartphone.
When reading or studying the Bible, it"s a good idea to use our own "Bible" so it"s not just a book, but "my own Book of the Word".
Unless necessary, it is not good to use our smartphones to read or listen to the Bible. Underlining and highlighting the Bible and leaving traces of our tears of repentance and tears of gratitude and inspiration will make the Bible a precious treasure the more we read it. It will be the first "life" we will take if our house is in fire.
Walking with the Bible, eighth, it is better to read it in our native language.
The best way to know about the Bible is to read and study it in the language that we are most comfortable with, the language we understand. Sometimes, we read the Bible in English to study English as well, but reading the Bible only in the language that is not our native language is not right. Not only will the contents be unclear, but we will end up giving up because reading the Bible becomes slower.
Walking with the Bible, ninth, it is better to read it with several members
It is better to encourage and motivate each other as a group than to read the Bible alone. It is very difficult to be spiritually motivated by ourselves.
The Bible says.
How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity! (Ps 133:1)
The Bible says.
Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. (Eccl 4:12)
Sometimes, a friendly competition can be good to encourage ourselves to do better to be closer with the Word of God. Even if it is for a competition or we are doing it earnestly, the important thing is what we are doing it for. (Phil. 1: 12-18).
And the last, to study the One Story better, we should do this.
1.Firstly, we need to listen well.
For the first few times, watch and listen to the videos with a calm and prayerful heart. Instead of looking for typos and mistakes, or looking at the video editing skills, we need to be attentive in what God is saying to us. We can listen to it with our eyes closed.
2.And we need to look for it well.
Watch the video again, stop the screen where the Bible verse appears, open our Bible, check it, and underline it. We can also highlight it. I encourage everyone to look for the Bible verses given. It"s not about memorizing the verses, but to check and underline the given verses to confirm it ourselves.
3.We should also repeat it.
By watching and listening to the videos again, look back and go through the verses that were searched from the beginning to the end of the videos. If the Word is realized and recognized, we should rely on the Spirit more and pray to curve the Word of God we recognized in our hearts. Like this, we should re-watch the videos. Please, we should not listen to it once and say we know everything. We can say we "know" it only when it is seen in our actions and when it becomes a spiritual habit in our lives.
Through the One Story, we will look through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. Book by book, with stepping stones, we will look through, the Bible, the Bible that transcends the era, the everlasting Bible. Please pray and pray again that God"s grace and power can be with us till the end.
The life of a Christian who hold onto the Bible as if it is their life will always continue.
